1bottle red wine, your favorite variety, full-bodied is best
1tspcinnamon stick, or 1/2 tsp ground
1tspwhole nutmeg pod, or 1/4 tsp ground
1tspwhole cloves, or 1/8 tsp ground
1Tbspcardamom pods, optional, or 1/4 tsp ground
1/8cupdried figs, chopped
1/8cupdried cranberries, or raisins
1cuporange, or 2 clementines/mandarins, zested and juiced
Instructions
Put 1/4 cup of the wine in a pot with the spices and dried fruit, along with the juice of the orange, and bring to a boil. Leave this to simmer, uncovered, for about 10 minutes until it’s somewhat reduced.
Add the rest of the wine and the zest from the orange to the pot, stir to combine and leave it on low heat until it just gets heated through.
Ladle into glasses, being sure to include some dried fruit.
