Mulled Wine

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle red wine, your favorite variety, full-bodied is best
  • 1 tsp cinnamon stick, or 1/2 tsp ground
  • 1 tsp whole nutmeg pod, or 1/4 tsp ground
  • 1 tsp whole cloves, or 1/8 tsp ground
  • 1 Tbsp cardamom pods, optional, or 1/4 tsp ground
  • 1/8 cup dried figs, chopped
  • 1/8 cup dried cranberries, or raisins
  • 1 cup orange, or 2 clementines/mandarins, zested and juiced

Instructions

  • Put 1/4 cup of the wine in a pot with the spices and dried fruit, along with the juice of the orange, and bring to a boil. Leave this to simmer, uncovered, for about 10 minutes until it’s somewhat reduced.
  • Add the rest of the wine and the zest from the orange to the pot, stir to combine and leave it on low heat until it just gets heated through.
  • Ladle into glasses, being sure to include some dried fruit.
